February Bread Baking Classes

After forty-eight years of bread baking, it still thrills me to peek into my oven and see a loaf of bread rising beautifully and beginning to brown.  Soon it will be ready to cool, slice and enjoy with my family and friends.  Besides being delicious, I know that loaf is full of great nutrition – that kind that grows hungry boys into men!  Trust me on this!

One of my favorite things is to share my baking skills with others, so many months on our Bethlehem Harvest weekends, we offer classes for both beginner and more advanced bread bakers.  This month we are planning to offer the two classes below.  The classes will be offered on Saturday, February 17th and Monday, February 19th at 1:00 p.m.  Which class happens which day depends on those who would like to sign up.  Kind of first-come, first-served!

If you would like to sign up for a class, just drop me a note at bethlehemharvest@gmail.com and let me know which class and day would work best for you.  If you have a couple of friends you would like to bring, all the better!  The cost for each class is only $10 per person, with a $20 maximum per family.

Beginning Bread Baking

This class is suitable for anyone who is interested in learning to bake home-made whole grain yeast breads or anyone who is looking to improve their skills.  We will start with high quality ingredients and walk through the entire process of mixing, kneading, shaping, rising and baking loaves of delicious honey-wheat bread.  We will use some of the same dough to make some specialty items like cinnamon rolls or kolaches.  This is a very hands on class and is suitable for adults and children who are accompanied by an adult.  The cost is $10 per person or $20 per family.

Artisan Bread Baking

Artisan breads are a European tradition – something radically different than a loaf of grocery store sandwich bread.  These breads feature a small amount of yeast that is allowed to multiply slowly, fermenting a loaf with a unique taste and texture.  Baked in a very hot oven, these breads are crusty on the outside and chewy on the inside, and when made with whole grain flours, these breads have flavor that is unsurpassed!  This class is most suited to the adult student that has some bread baking experience.  The cost is $10 per person or $20 per family.

To make a reservation for either bread class, please drop us a note at bethlehemharvest@gmail.com.

Additional bread classes can be arranged to suit your schedule, especially if you would like to gather a group of friends who would like to learn together. Suggest a date and a class type, and we will see what we can do!!
