Come join us for a bread baking class this summer! Here are the classes we are hosting in July. The sourdough class is coming up quickly, so sign up soon. All classes cost $10 per person with a $30 max per family. Each student receives an equivalent credit toward Bethlehem Harvest purchases.
Sourdough Bread Baking – Saturday, July 16th, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.
“They say” that San Francisco sour dough breads are the best in the world, but I would beg to differ! A fresh loaf sourdough bread just out of your very own oven is a treat that just can’t be beat!! Using an 1847 sourdough starter that traversed the Oregon Train, we will make loaves of whole grain sourdough bread that are distinctly sour and decidedly delicious! The souring process adds to the nutritional value and digestibility of your bread. Some bread baking experience is helpful, but not required. This class is suitable for teens and adults.
Parent/Child Bread Class – Tuesday, July 26th, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon
What do nine children, five moms, and a batch of bread dough add up to? A whole lot of fun!! We made a HUGE mess, but we had a great time making kolaches and cinnamon rolls – which we promptly devoured. I promise that no one went home hungry from this bread baking class!! Come join us on July 26th as we repeat the performance and the fun while we learn about whole grain bread baking in the process. This class is suitable for all ages, but parents must attend with their children.
Basic Whole Grain Bread Baking – Saturday, July 30th, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.
This class is geared toward the novice bread baker. We will learn about various kinds of whole grains that can be used in bread baking and the basic “how to’s” of baking with yeast. We will walk through the process of making a simple yeast bread from start to finish, and learn how to use one dough to make several different products – loaves, dinner rolls, hamburger buns, kolaches, cinnamon rolls and even pizza! Best of all, we will eat the results of our baking efforts – delicious!! No prior bread baking experience is necessary. This class is suitable for adults and children ages 10 and up.
