November Bread Classes

soup and bread It’s November, and on a cool fall evening, there is nothing quite like a bowl of soup and a loaf of crusty whole grain bread.  Filling your house with the aromas of simmering soup and baking bread is among life’s sweetest simple pleasures.  Bethlehem Harvest would like to help make this dream a reality in your home with two upcoming bread classes.

Artisan Bread Baking – Saturday, November 19th from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.

In this class we will learn about making European style Artisan breads with their characteristic hard, chewy crusts and soft moist interiors.  These breads are developed slowly over many hours, so the class is part demonstration and part participation.  Come prepared to do it all – milling flour, mixing dough, kneading bread, shaping loaves, and then baking and eating this delicious bread!  This class is most suitable for the student with at least some bread baking experience.  The cost for this class is $10 per student with a $20 max per family, and each student will go home with bread to share with their family.

Sandwich Bread for Every Day – Monday, November 21st from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.

This class will cover all of the basics, getting even the most inexperienced baker off to a great start.  We will talk about selecting ingredients, milling fresh flour, mixing doughs by hand or with a mixer, working with yeast, kneading dough, shaping loaves, rising bread, baking loaves and eating bread fresh out of the oven!  Whether you are a beginner or have some experience with baking yeast breads, you will enjoy this class and learn a great deal.  Children are welcome to attend this class with a parent of grandparent.  The cost for this class is $10 per student with a $20 maximum per family.  Each student will go home with bread to share with their family.
